Campus, Online Summer Coding Camps Available for Kids
Campus and online computer coding camps are being organized this summer for youths in kindergarten through eighth grade, with instruction by Â鶹´«Ã½professors and mentorship from students.
Â鶹´«Ã½is hosting campus and online July 18-22 for youths wanting to have fun while learning about computing, robotics and creating their own games.
A course will introduce Scratch game design to children in kindergarten through third grade from 9 a.m. to noon each day. An advanced introduction to game design course using Python programming will be from 1-4 p.m. for children in grades 4-8.
Campus sessions will have youths working with Â鶹´«Ã½professors and students from the top-ranked undergraduate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics college. The cost is $150 per camp participant. Need-based scholarships are available.
Free on-line session participants will receive emails with daily instructional videos created by professors. Youths also will have the opportunity to receive help through Zoom meetings with Â鶹´«Ã½student mentors.
“Each day we will showcase a new game that we build together, and we’ll give kids an assignment for additional features they can add. It’s a great way to start coding,” said camp organizer , PhD, professor of and at Rose-Hulman.
Materials for this summer’s camp were developed in consolation with Bob Schaffer, PhD, head of the Department of Engineering at Mission College in Santa Clara, California.
