Shaine Strullmeyer credits Â鶹´«Ã½for helping him succeed in the workforce and providing the fundamentals, practical experience and capacity to learn and adapt to the constant change that surrounds the computer science industry.  

Strullmeyer, a 2013 computer science and electrical engineering graduate, now works as a Manager Release Engineer at Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO). MISO manages the flow of high-voltage electricity across 15 U.S states and the Canadian province of Manitoba and is responsible for keeping power flowing across its region reliably and cost effectively. The non-profit company facilitates one of the world’s largest energy markets with more than $33 billion in annual transactions and plans the grid of the future. 

His job is managing two teams in MISO’s software engineering department: the release engineering team and the operations team. “Working in the energy industry provides me a unique opportunity to bring modern software engineering practices to enable a secure, reliable energy grid,” said Strullmeyer.

Strullmeyer praises Rose-Hulman, especially the professors in the Computer Science Department, for their dedication and expertise and credits them for the success he’s achieved in his career at MISO.

“In particular, the power systems courses that I enjoyed with Dr. Cliff Grigg set me on a path to pursue a career in the energy industry that I never would have been exposed to without his experience and enthusiasm,” he added. “Additionally, Dr. Sriram Mohan and Dr. Michael Wollowski, whose knowledge, support, and delightful classes, made a lasting impression and inspired me to learn every day.”
